Artichoke
On Friday the 12th of September our regions young artists showcased their fantastic talents at the opening night of the 11th Regional Youth Art Exhibition held at the South Coast Regional Arts Centre in Goolwa. This exhibition is a free youth focused event held annually by the Alexandrina Council and the City of Victor Harbor and ran for a period of 10 days.

There was an amazing array of talent this year with 110 pieces of art work being submitted by the regions young people aged between 13 to 20. Over 100 people came to view the works throughout the evening enjoying not only the art but also the various entertainments provided. As people entered the art centre to view the works, local talented musicians Fingercuffs played their tunes. Following the opening by Jenn Cole manager of Arts and Lifestyles department with Alexandrina Council, STRUTH FM took to the stage to MC the rest of the event, speeches were made from local artist and teacher Carol Kennewell and Leah Grace. Entertainment continued on through out the evening with performances from James and Dave the‘Moffett Brothers’, a skit from Wet Paint Youth theatre and Fingercuffs kept the music flowing.
The peoples choice award went to 15 year old Josh Aucutt from Victor Harbor High School with his Stencil of the Victor harbor train Station.

There were many prizes handed out through the night by Leah Grace coordinator of the Arts Centre. However it is not really about prizes its about the fantastic work that the young people of the community continue to do. “What is important to remember is that all the young artists who submitted their works are all winners, just to have their works exhibited is a major win ” Leah Grace said.

Lucretia Sperring Youth development Officer with Alexandrina and the City of Victor Harbor would like to thank the following businesses and individuals whose donations and assistance help make events like these a success; Veg Out- Victor Harbor, Whyte House Gallery , Neds Emporium, Mario Bridge, Art Explosion, Random Surf and Skate, Goolwa Foodland, Mountain Fresh Fruit juices, Angus & Robertson, the Youth Advisory Committee and all the High Schools and Art teachers.
